 I-messages are a key element of successful communication. They help express one’s own feelings, needs, and perceptions clearly and honestly - without attacking or blaming the other person. Instead of saying “You never listen,” a statement like “I feel overlooked when I’m not allowed to finish speaking” is less confrontational and opens the door to respectful dialogue. I-messages promote understanding, reduce conflict, and strengthen interpersonal relationships.
